Step Outside Your Beige-White Comfort Zone
Whether you are remodelling your home or starting from scratch, picking a colour pallete that reflects your personal style, won’t date and yet still looks chic is a mighty big design challenge. As a result, most people are afraid to step outside their ‘beige-white comfort zone’ and whilst there isn’t anything wrong with that- if you are looking for a shade that’s here to stay, looks modern and will be complemented by a pop of colour, consider grey to make your new room design absolutely gorgeous.
In the Bathroom
The trick with grey in bathrooms (or in any space for that matter) is to consider the climate and overall space you live in. Grey, just like any other colour, comes in both cool and warm tones. Consider this when selecting your shade of grey. If you live in a warm environment, select a gorgeous cool grey tone so the space will effortlessly achieve a soothing energy.
In contrast, if warmth is what you desire try adding wood to your design or selecting a warmer grey shade, which will create a sophisticated yet cosy space.
In the Kitchen
What makes grey here to stay in the kitchen is the fact that grey goes with nearly every other colour possible! Grey looks gorgeous in paint, tile and wood and the trick in making your grey kitchen feel homely is in the styling. Choose complimentary colours that are in vogue, such as bright yellows and warming blues, and insert splashes of your desired colour with interchangeable accessories, flowers and fruit.
In the Dining Room & Living Areas
Grey is an ideal choice for high footfall areas whether your choice of flooring is tile, carpet or wood. This also makes grey the go to colour in the lounge, dining and living areas of the home as it is less likely to show up dirt and your occasional entertainment spill.
As the dominant colour, grey is a gorgeous choice for layering with lighter and darker shades or grey, which will add interest and sophistication to any space. The effect will be anything but disappointing. Try decorative stone to add feature texture, an option which we have a wide selection of in-store at Tile Wizards. Another possibility is to add irregular-sized photo frames arranged within an imagined shape (square or rectangular). This will create the same effect as a single artwork and add casual depth to your grey room. Don’t forget to keep any artwork at eye level as to not affect the flow of the room.
So remember…
1. Blue-based greys can help you cool a space in hot environments.
2. Wood can instantly add warmth and contrast to any grey space.
3. Texture and layering will add interest and depth of design to any living space.
