Glazed Ceramic Tiles and Sealant Application
Glazed ceramic tiles are very common in both residential and commercial buildings, especially in wet areas like bathrooms and kitchens due to the glaze being stain resistant, scratch resistant, fire resistant, and slip resistant, as well as being easy to clean and will not fade from direct sunlight exposure.
What makes glazed ceramic tiles special is the fact that they have a layer of glass that protects the tile biscuit. Glaze comes in a variety of finishes from Matt, Glossy and textured finishes. The top layer also protects the tile by making it impermeable, meaning nothing can penetrate it. Therefore, there is no need to apply sealant on glazed tiles.
Seal The Grout
However, you shouldn’t neglect the grout that goes in between the tiles. Grout is very porous and come in a wide range of colours; generally lighter coloured grout is used more often in wall and floor projects and should be treated with a sealant in order to resist water and moisture. At Tile Wizards, we have a range of grout and sealing products that can help you keep your wall and floor grout looking like new for years to come.
Maintaining Non-Glazed Ceramic Tiles
Also, if you decide on or already have non-glazed ceramic tiles, you will need to apply a penetrating or glossy sealant that will need to be maintained every 3-5 years depending on the foot traffic.
