How To Keep Your Pool Tiles Clean
The best part about having a pool is keeping cool in summer. The worst part? The maintenance.
It’s not only the interior of the pool that requires cleaning; the perimeter and surrounding areas often feature significant amounts of ceramic tile, typically porcelain. Additionally, natural stone materials such as Time Stone, Cadore and Cavatore are commonly used to enhance the aesthetic and functional aspects of these spaces.
But regular upkeep of your pool means that you’re not stuck with a grubby looking pool that takes days to clean.
How often should you clean your pool tiles?
It’s not uncommon for grime to develop around the edges of the pool. A build up of sunscreen, mineral deposits and just general debris settles quickly on the tiles around the waterline. Dirt and grime will only cling to the tiles the more you leave them, so the quicker you clean it off, the easier it will be. For the tiles around the pool, regular cleaning is important. If you leave the tiles too long, the tiles could become slippery from mould, which is dangerous to have around the pool. Remember, the pools around your pool area are exposed to the elements, so they’ll need to be kept clean.
Clean your pool tiles at least twice a year but do more regular maintenance around the waterline of the pool because that’s where most of the build up occurs. For the perimeter of the pool, monthly maintenance is probably best.
How to remove stains and scaling from waterline tiles
If you’ve left it too long, it can take quite a while to clean the build up on waterline tiles, so it’s always best to get into a routine of doing it regularly. Start off by cleaning up any debris or organic material such as leaves, grass, dirt, etc. Then, using a stiff brush, clean away the calcium buildup by brushing in circular movements. Using a pumice stone will also help, but remember to keep both the stone and the tile wet to avoid any excessive scratching. You might need a chemical cleaner to help get the grime off, especially if you’ve left it long. At Tile Wizards, we sell some amazing cleaning products that get rid of even the toughest of stains. How to clean the tile around your pool
To clean the tiles around your pool, you can use a pressure washer or apply a mixture of water and chlorine bleach with a mop or scrub brush. Alternatively, for regular maintenance, you can opt for a more natural solution by using a mix of vinegar and water. However, when you need a more thorough clean, consider our Sure Seal® Grout, Tile & Stone Cleaner which gets rid of even the most stubborn grime from your pool.
When washing the deck of a swimming pool, make sure that the cleaning solution does not dry on the surface before rinsing. If it dries, it can cause streaks and stains, and the detergent may adhere to the deck, leaving behind a sticky residue that attracts even more dirt than before!
