Timber flooring is more than just a design choice. It can provide your room with atmosphere and personality.
Timber flooring has been a flooring choice for hundreds of years because of its strength and durability. It went out of vogue many, many years ago, but over the past fifteen years, it has been creeping back into people’s homes and hearts. When used in the home, it looks warm, cosy and inviting. But not everybody thinks so. For those of you who still think timber is an antiquated flooring choice, we’ve done the research, spoken to the design experts, and compiled some classic design ideas with a modern twist.
Light Timber Flooring
If you are installing flooring in a small space, then light timber flooring is the perfect choice because it will make the space look bigger. Who doesn’t want to make a small space look bigger? Alternatively, installing dark timber flooring in a large space will make it look cosier.
If you have light, cooler colours in a room, using light timber flooring will really lift the room and give it a warm feel. A great way to really make a room feel modern and homey is to introduce some indoor greenery to the room – think hanging pot plants or even an indoor garden installation.
Dark Timber Flooring
Darker timber flooring is the flooring that is most associated with old fashioned applications, thanks to its prevalence in heritage homes. Dark timber, however, is a great flooring choice for modern homes because it looks warm and inviting. If you really want to create a modern and inviting room by using dark timber, then you should match your flooring with rich vibrant colours such as burgundy, blues, bright yellow and dark greens because they will really pop against your flooring. Matching these bright colours with beautiful dark timber floorboards will create a gorgeous homey vibe which is perfect for the modern home.
Personal and Unique Living Spaces
An increasingly popular trend in modern homes that is here to stay, is really making your home personal and unique. Timber flooring is a really great option for this because it’s so full of character and every piece is unique. A Timber floor will suit any home. Aged timber is perfect for a home that is going for a more classic feel. Matte finished timber will create a modern contemporary vibe. Teaming your beautiful timber flooring with a neutral colour palette will really embrace the rich textures of the timber.
Modern Twist on the Classic
A modern twist on the classic look timber floorboards are the new wider timber floorboards which look very contemporary. These will add a modern edge to your home in any colour or shade and look fantastic when paired with single toned furniture.
High Ceiling Rooms
If you’re trying to decide what flooring to lay in a room with high ceilings then you should look no further then warm toned timber floorboards. These will make the most of your space and create a warm ambience in the room. No old fashioned church style rooms here!
