Best Choices of Indoor Plants For The Bathroom
We put plants in our living rooms and bedrooms, even in the kitchen so, when you think about it, there’s no reason to not include the bathroom in this list too.
In fact, the best room in the house for growing an indoor plant is often your bathroom: the warm, humid conditions in a well-lit bathroom are ideal for many tropical plants. And remember that in addition to their decorative appeal and their ability to make your bathroom tiles ‘pop’, most houseplants also help purify the air.
The Aloe (Aloe Vera)
Aloe Vera is a succulent plant species, which has been widely grown as an ornamental plant. Although it needs some amount of sunlight, the Aloe plant can burn under too much sun. It also doesn’t need lots of water to survive so the humidity should be enough to keep it healthy.
Orchid
All orchids are perennial herbs so you’ll only get to enjoy them for part of the year.
Ficus
The Ficus tree is the ‘it’ plant of the moment! You will see the Ficus in living rooms, patios, bedrooms and now bathrooms all across Australia. Available in a variety of leaf shapes and colors, some species love high light while others need very little light at all. Many Ficus trees do best in moist climates, like that provided by your bathroom. When properly cared for, this plant will live many years and can reach heights of up to 5 metres.
Mother-in-law’s Tongue
Also known as Snake Plant, this plant is one of the best for filtering out formaldehyde, which is common in cleaning products, toilet paper, tissues and personal care products – not that it would be found in toxic levels in your bathroom. This plant will thrive in shade or sun and steamy humid conditions while helping filter out air pollutants – perfect for your bathroom! But please don’t over-water it. Mother-in-law Tongue is also a houseplant that you can’t kill… well at least it’s a lot harder to kill!
Not only do plants in your bathroom look spectacular and help to create a space of calm and relaxation but all indoors plants (flowering or not) are able to purify indoor air to some degree through their normal photosynthesis processes. Team this with easy to clean tiles throughout, and your bathroom will become your sanctuary away from your busy life.
