Keep your carpet in top shape for years to come!
New carpets look fantastic, but without proper maintenance, they can wear down fast. Quality carpet should not need to be replaced very often. Here are some tips to get more years out of your carpet!
Keep the Dirt Out
Dirt can cause damage to your carpet. Dirt rubs against the yarn, creating tears in the fibres and removing the lustre. The easiest way to keep your carpet in good shape is to make sure you vacuum regularly! Vacuum as often as 2-4 times a week, particularly in high traffic areas. This will help prevent dirt and gravel from accumulating and damaging your carpet.
Protect High Traffic Areas
Spaces like your hallways and living room receive a high level of foot traffic, which can cause your carpet to wear down. Protect these spaces by removing your shoes when you enter your home and lay down a doormat to protect the entry.
It is also a good idea to rearrange your furniture regularly. This will prevent your furniture from causing damage by spreading the weight evenly across the room, and also change the traffic course through your home, helping your carpet to last much longer.
Accidents happen, but make sure you immediately clean up anything solid and soak away excess liquids. When a spill is given time to dry and set in, it can become a permanent stain. By immediately acting to clean a spill, you will prevent it from soaking into the carpet fibres and padding. (See our article on how to properly clean carpets).
Get a Professional Clean
Most carpets will require a full, professional clean every couple of years. Make sure you employ a reliable carpet cleaning company to service your carpets to keep them in top shape for many years to come.
